Log Houses Construction Method

Tropos kataskeuisThe logic of a log house is simple and very effective. The logwalls pass through special machines that take the circular or rectangular shape and simultaneously impressions and depressions are created, by the length of the logs, that aim at the full application and stabilisation for the horizontal placement of one on top of the other. The connections of the logs on the corners are made with corresponding notches in such a way that the logs are crossed and tied together. Between the logs, there is an insulation to ensure tightness. Bolts are also placed on the logwalls, with length equal to the height of the wall and dowells on default positions. This helps in the construction to be less bending and more solid.Tropos kataskeuis-2

The roof is made according to the requirements of Finland. The roof which is ventilated in all of its surface in combination with the thickness of the insulation which can be from 100 to 190mm. (glasswool or rockwool), has as a result the perfect behaviour in cold and warm conditions. In the following figure you can see the construction of the roof, starting from bottom to top: - Ceiling panel - Humidity barrier - Roof rafters - Insulation - Waterproof breathing membrane - Ventilation gap rafters - Roof boarding - Covering of asphaltic felt. The roof can also be constructed with visible joists for aesthetic purposes. The covering of the roof can be with asphaltic felt or roof tiles or any other material.

Tropos kataskeuis-3The construction of the intermediate floor, is accomplished with logs same as the logwalls that are placed every 400-600 mm. They form a part of the construction too, because with the notches on their edges, they "lock" on the logwalls like the logwalls does on the corners. Beneath these, a membrane and the roof casing (ceiling) is placed, between them insulation and on top of them the flooring boards. These logs or otherwise supporting joists, can also be visible for aesthetic purposes. On the side figure we see the supporting joists and the flooring boards. For the verandah and the balcony, specially processed joists and flooring boards are used in order to be protected from rotten, fungus and climatological conditions generally. The ground floor can be constructed with tiles, stone tiles or any other material as well as a combination of different materials.Tropos kataskeuis-4
